Recently he launched a new album ‘A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.’ It is filled with a juxtaposition of heavily different musical influences for which he is known. Not one to be afraid of experimentation on his records, Sturgill continues this trend.
“I wanted it to be an exploration of all the different types of music that I love—a musical journey. I listen to a lot of Marvin Gaye, a lot of Bill Withers. I like the way George Harrison sings and tried to incorporate that.”
He debuted on the music scene back in 2013 with a popular song “High Top Mountain.” Then he went even farther with “Metamodern Sounds in Country Music” the following year, which launched him into musical stratosphere, globally.

In 2014, “Metamodern Sounds in Country Music” was so popular it gained features in magazines such as Vogue, L.A. Times, Rolling Stone, The New York Times and many others. It also garnered him a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album.
Biography
This Kentucky country singer will never be considered as a traditional artist as Simpson continually bucks the trend in music, and has been awarded for his innovative efforts. Recently, he launched a new record and it continues to push the envelope of country music. Sturgill Simpson is a former navy man who spent time working in the ports of Japan and ultimately found his way back home to Kentucky.
The musician started out with a bluegrass band in 2004. He later toured with ‘Sunday valley’ after completing his singing at local gigs. An album eventually came but he decided to move to Nashville to focus on a solo career. This was one of his best decisions because with his focus and tenacity, Sturgill has turned the tides and reaped immense success in the country music business.
